Today’s trail is relatively flat, with very few steep ascents or descents. This gives us ample opportunity to focus on capturing some breathtaking shots of the scenic surroundings. Along the way, we can take photographs of the awe-inspiring stupas, traditional prayer flags, and majestic mountains, like the towering Ama Dablam. We’ll also come across some mani walls, which are walls inscribed with intricate Buddhist prayers. One of the main highlights of the journey is the Tengboche Monastery, which we can reach by traversing a dusty switchback route.

Once we arrive, we can soak in the panoramic views of the surrounding area, which is truly a sight to behold. If we’re fortunate enough, we may even get to attend a service at the monastery, which would be an incredible experience. If we do, it would be appreciated if we made a small donation to show our support for the community. Another thing we can do at the monastery is light some butter lamps, which is a traditional way of offering prayers and paying homage to the deities.

One of the best options is to visit the base of Nangkar Tshang Peak. This hike is a round trip of 3.5 to 5 hours and offers stunning views of Mt Makalu and sacred sites. Today is going to be an exhilarating day! We will embark on a trek to the viewpoint of Everest. The trail will take us around three hours to traverse over boulders and rough terrain, leading us to the small settlement of Gorakshep. After having lunch, we will head to Kalapatthar, which offers the best views of Everest. At 5,545 meters, it is the highest altitude we can trek in Nepal without requiring climbing permits. Kalapatthar, meaning black rock, is more of a ridge than a mountain.

In case the weather is not clear, we may postpone our visit to Kalapatthar for the next morning, as the sunrise over Everest is equally awe-inspiring as the sunset. If we decide to go with this option, we will hike to Everest Base Camp today. However, please note that trekking groups do not go inside the base camp where expeditions are set up, to avoid disturbing the climbers’ activity or risking their health. We don’t want to pass on our colds and flu to them when they embark on such an epic journey! Nonetheless, we will get an excellent view of all the ongoing activity.
