Meet your guide and join a half‐day Wood carving workshop. The craftsmen here turn all kind of wood into beautiful sculptures and frescoes.
Today, wood carving is a slowly dying trade, kept alive by the temples which periodically order statues of Buddha.
This exclusive experience is run by a master wood carver who used to carve pieces at the palace for the royal family and often points to a plethora of works at the National museum which is also the ground of the former palace. Don’t miss this experience!
This course is over 4 hours so you might want to bring a snack and some water in case you get hungry 🙂 There’s also a nice restaurant nearby should you need to buy anything. (join‐in wood carving)
After lunch, transfer to the pier and board a longtail boat for a very scenic two and a half hour boat ride up the Mekong River to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves. On the way observe the many limestone karst formations that dot the landscape surrounding Luang Prabang. Upon arrival at Pak Ou, climb the steps to the caves and admire the thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues that were left behind by pilgrims dating back dozens of years ago. The statues vary in size from a few centimeters tall to the size of a human being. Return to Luang Prabang and end the day at Vat Xieng Thong. The pagoda is one of the most emblematic temples in Laos and is located at the top of the peninsula where the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers meet. Observe the novices and return to the hotel afterwards for a free evening.
