This trek passing true Khmu villages, offers a great opportunity to gain a true insight into the rural life of the local villagers. Trek across rice paddies, farm land and forest and experience the true natural beauty of the Luang Prabang Province. Enjoy a home‐stay to experience real insight into the culture of ethnic minorities and the spectacular Kuang Si waterfall on the day two.
We leave Luang Prabang in the morning and drive through a beautiful countryside to Ban Nong Touk. Here we spend some time to learn about the life in the rural lowlands of the Lao and Khmu communities before setting off trekking! The trek leads us first through rice paddies and pineapple plantations before entering the dense jungle which is home to a remarkable diversity of tree species!
After two hours of hiking we reach the first peak of the mountain range, where we stop for a while to enjoy the great views of the surrounding landscape and enjoy a local style picnic lunch. As we continue onwards we soon reach another peak, before the trail begins to head downwards in to the forest. As we arrive in the forest the chances to see wild animals and their tracks are good, the forest is home to a vast selection of different species! Along the way we pass a tiny settlement of 5 Hmong families before continuing onwards.
The last leg of the day is a short half hour walk to Ban Long Lao which is where we stay overnight. Here you have the opportunity to get a real insight into the culture of the two ethnic minorities (Hmong and Khmu) who live here together in harmony.
